Vision Statement
“Community Storage” is an emerging term for utility-sponsored programs that aggregate distributed energy storage resources that are located throughout a community, such as water heaters, electric vehicles, and interconnected storage batteries, to improve the operational efficiency of electric energy services to consumers.
The defining characteristic of a community storage program is the coordinated dispatch and optimization of premises-based energy storage resources, often behind a consumer’s energy meter, to achieve electric system-wide benefit.
The Community Storage Initiative (CSI) is focused on collaborative information sharing and coordinated market development efforts in support of wide-scale implementation of energy storage technologies that are commonly located in communities across the country. CSI is dedicated to bringing the economic, environmental and societal benefits of these storage technologies to end-use electric customers throughout the US.
The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA)
The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association is the national service organization that represents the nation’s more than 900 private, not-for-profit, consumer-owned electric cooperatives serving 42 million people in 47 states. Follow us on Twitter @NRECANews.
Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)
The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is an international nonprofit environmental organization with more than 2 million members and online activists. Edison Electric Institute (EEI)
The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) is the association that represents all U.S. investor-owned electric companies. Our members provide electricity for 220 million Americans, operate in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, and directly employ more than 500,000 workers. With $100 billion in annual capital expenditures, the electric power industry is responsible for millions of additional jobs. EEI has 70 international electric companies as International Members, and 270 industry suppliers and related organizations as Associate Members.
American Public Power Association (APPA)
The American Public Power Association is the national service organization for the more than 2,000 not-for-profit, community-owned electric utilities in the U.S. Collectively, these utilities serve more than 48 million Americans in 49 states. APPA was created in 1940 as a non-profit, non-partisan organization. Its purpose is to advance the public policy interests of its members and their consumers, and to provide member services to ensure adequate, reliable electricity at a reasonable price with the proper protection of the environment.
Peak Load Management Alliance (PLMA)
PLMA (Peak Load Management Alliance) was founded in 1999 as the voice of demand response practitioners. It is a community of experts and practitioners dedicated to sharing knowledge and providing resources to advance the demand response marketplace. PLMA members share expertise to educate each other and explore innovative approaches to demand response programs, price and rate response, regional regulatory issues, and technologies as the energy markets evolve. PLMA grew to over 90 utility and allied organization members in 2015.
